Iceland is the angler’s paradise. Our rivers are flowing with Wild Salmon. Iceland is famous for its salmon rivers and foreign anglers come here to enjoy them, some returning year after year. Angling was introduced to Icelanders by British sports anglers. Salmon and trout have been eaten since settlement. Nowadays most rivers are reserved for recreational fishing.

Fish farming of salmon and trout is a growing industry in Iceland. Salmonidae like river trout, rainbow trout as well as salmon contain significant amounts of omega-3 fatty acids, which is very beneficial to humans.
